Australia v Pakistan 1st ODI Preview – 28th August

It is the first ODI of the 3 match ODI series contested between Pakistan and Australia. It is going to be played in extreme heat even though the time of the match is quite unusual being late night. Australia have had a practise match in the UAE and didn’t look too bad against Afghanistan but Pakistan is a new challenge. Pakistan will start favourites due to them being more comfortable in these conditions. The visitors are without Shane Watson so they will be relying heavily on Michael Clarke to do well with the bat in the series. Kamran Akmal has been brilliant in the Sri Lankan Premier League and he will be very dangerous if he gets a start.

Match Information :

August 28-29, Sharjah
Starting Time: 1800 Local Time (1400 GMT Time)

Key Contest:

Michael Clarke vs Sohail Tanvir

Michael Clarke will be filling the spot voided by Shane Watson in the opening position and it is a position that he is familiar with. Clarke opened the batting for Australia in ODI’s no more than a few years ago when Matthew Hayden was dropped from the team and now without Watson Clarke will have big shoes to fill at the top but Clarke is talented and will lead from the front. Sohail Tanvir has made a great comeback to cricket and recent success in the Sri Lankan Premier League will be a confidence booster for him and Pakistan.

Team News:

Australia are without Shane Watson meaning Michael Clarke the captain of Australia will promote himself and open e batting with David Warner. There are a range of options for who to put in the middle order, Glen Maxwell who played against Afghanistan is a possibility as is Callam Ferguson or Daniel Christian. Alistair Mcdermott will be the unlucky one out of the bowlers to miss out in the 1st ODI as Johnson should get a game.

Pakistan will be captained by Misbah-ul-Haq who hasn’t had a great SLPL but he has a few team-mates who have had a great SLPL and are in good knick. Kamran Akmal has been brilliant and will be the keeper of the team. Farhat and Hafeez will open the batting but it is unclear whether Afridi is available due to his wife being sick.
