2nd Test: Pakistan vs Australia in Melbourne, Dec 28/29, 2016, Cricket Highlights.
Australia have succeeded in edging clear of Pakistan in the Second Test thanks to sharing big runs through the batting line-up. With a number of batsmen looking to have played themselves back into form in this series, Steve Smith's performance may have stood out, but was not the only example of a usually-dependable man coming good again for the host nation.
100 not out for Smith and 144 for David Warner were excellent contributions, but they were accompanied by 97 for Usman Khawaja, who appears to be once again growing in confidence. Smith, with nine fours so far in his captain's performance, was in to bat with Mitchell Starc when the rain came down. Although Australia will have further opportunity to extend their lead on the final day, both sides will have to be mindful of allowing enough overs for Pakistan to try to beat the total.
At this stage, the key for Pakistan will be to try and keep any chance of winning what has been a promising series for the visitors. It would be a disappointment for this improving team if, after the heroics from Azhar Ali that saw him finish with 205, they were not able to complete a weather-truncated Test.
