Australia vs West Indies T20 World Cup Match 8 Preview – 22nd Sept

This is the match in Group B which could decide who progresses to the Super Eights as the first placed team in the group. Australia blitzed Ireland which will please the team since they were under a lot of pressure to beat Ireland. The West Indies will hope to open up their points total with a win over the Australian team. They will have to rely on Chris Gayle since he is such a consistent T20 player who can take a game away in an instance. Pat Cummins had a fairly poor match in the game against Ireland but he will need to use his pace to attempt to trouble Chris Gayle early but he will have to be on song or else he will go for runs.

Match Information :

September 22, Colombo
Starting Time: 1930 Local Time (1400 GMT Time)

Key Contest:

Chris Gayle vs Patrick Cummins

Chris Gayle is no unknown player in the T20 format and if he is on song Australia will have an extremely difficult task of winning this match. Patrick Cummins is an up and coming rising star in World Cricket, he has been haunted by injury in his first year of cricket at the top level but this is a stage where he can make a big name for himself. Cummins was the poorest of the Australian bowlers against Ireland but he has performed well against some of the big teams and by taking the wicket of Gayle early he will put Australia in a really good position.

Team News:

Brad Hogg missed training on Thursday due to a headache and Mitchell Starc missed the session as well with a gastro problem. Xavier Doherty had to dash home for the birth of his child but he has arrived back in Sri Lanka in case he needs to replace Hogg. Hilfenhaus and Mckay are also available to replace Starc if he has to sit the game out.

The only decision the West Indies selectors will have to make is whether they will play two spinners in Sunil Narine and Samuel Badree or just play Narine and another fast bowler.
