The first game of the Asian Cup for 2012 contested between Bangladesh and Pakistan would be expected to be a one-sided match but Bangladesh always have an outside chance if they play well. Pakistan are in with a very good chance to win this Asian Cup but after a tough series against England their confidence would have dropped.
Match Information :
March 11, Dhaka
Starting Time: 1400 Local Time
How the Teams Stand:
Pakistan are definitely overwhelming favourites in this Series opener against Bangladesh based on the record between the two countries. The Bangladesh players have all been playing in the T20 competition in Bangladesh and it will be interesting how they adapt to the 50 over game. Bangladesh are steadily improving with a team but they have a few players that are crucial to their immediate plans that aren’t performing. Pakistan will be expecting an easy match but they can be big chokers and Bangladesh will be hungry to win one of these Asian Cup matches.
Tamim Iqbal’s international career is slowly going to rock bottom. When Iqbal performs the consequences for the opposition are immense but with only 2 half centuries from his last 12 innings for Bangladesh plus 2 ducks he is out of sorts and he needs a big innings in the Asian Cup to help keep his spot in the XI. Mohammed Hafeez made a terrific return to international cricket in 2011 being one Pakistan’s most consistent players with the bat. In 2012 he has not had a great start and is out of form after scoring only 60 runs from 4 matches against England. Pakistan will need Hafeez to play well so he is in form for the important matches against India and Sri Lanka.
The pitch in Dhaka has a grass cover on it which means that it will be slow. The spinners will get a lot out of this pitch and the batsmen will have to work extremely hard for their runs.
After the Bangladesh Premier League all Bangladesh players can be selected for the Asian Cup. With the grass cover on the pitch Bangladesh may be tempted to include an extra bowler.
