Chennai and Mumbai play in the eliminator final where the loser will be knocked out of this year’s IPL whilst the winner will advance to the semi final where they will face Delhi. Chennai and Mumbai haven’t been as strong as they have been in previous years but teams still possess big players but some of them are not in the greatest of form.
Match Information :
May 23, Bangalore
Starting Time: 2000 Local Time (1430 GMT Time)
How the Teams Stand:
Chennai finished in 4th place and were lucky to make the finals this year as they did not perform anywhere near the type of standard they are used to. Mumbai are the same and despite showing more conviction in their games they have had batting troubles especially concerns over the opening pair. Chennai’s strength is their batting while their bowling has lacked something this year and will need their middle order batsmen to step up for this match and get into form. Mumbai will rely heavily on their bowling attack as it is one of the strongest in the competition.
Lasith Malinga vs Suresh Raina
Lasith Malinga is Mumbai’s weapon with the ball and started the tournament off very well but only recently he has struggled to take the amount of wickets he usually gets. Suresh Raina has been a force with the bat for Chennai over the IPL seasons but this has to be his worst season for a long time. Raina has scored 341 runs which isn’t too bad but he is yet to get a half century and that emphasizes that Raina has struggled and has been unable to turn those starts into big scores. Malinga has 22 wickets but again he hasn’t take too many recently and that economy rate keeps creeping up and Mumbai need him in form.
There might be a few changes from the previous game for Chennai as they didn’t perform well at all. Faf du Plessis was dropped a few weeks ago but Mike Hussey has yet to contribute a lot and their is a possibility of them swapping. Murali Vijay has also performed badly at the top and he is also a chance of being dropped.
Mumbai performed excellently against Rajasthan but RP Singh could be dropped for Munaf Patel as he was very expensive.
