Chris Gayle has been recalled for the West Indies One Day internationals against England this month. Gayle has not played a single match for the West Indies for 15 months and that will stop when he takes on England on June 16.
Gayle had another meeting with his agent and other politcal and cricket figures in the West Indies to discuss more. The meeting was created to smooth any issues between the two parties so that Gayle could get recalled. Shortly after the meeting ended, the WICB named the squad.
“Directors of the West Indies Cricket Board recently met by teleconference and are pleased that consistent with his previous commitment Mr Chris Gayle has made himself available for selection to the West Indies team,” a WICB statement had said of the meeting. “The board believes that Mr Gayle’s stated commitment to West Indies cricket will be an asset to the team and looks forward to his contributions in that regard.”
Gayle was meant to be named in the tour of Australia but the talks broke down again with the IPL. The whole debacle started when Gayle critisised Ottis Gibson and the WICB during a radio interview. Lendl Simmons has also been recalled to the squad afer he was left out of the limited overs matches against Australia.
