The big news is that Kevin Pietersen has been dropped over the issue which involves him and England will have to grind even harder to win this match to level the series. The number one ranking in tests is up for grabs, England will retain it if they win anything less and they will lose that top ranking to South Africa. Stuart Broad and Hashim Amla will play huge roles in this Lord’s test.
Match Information :
August 16-20, Lord’s
Starting Time: 1100 Local Time (1000 GMT Time)
How the Teams Stand:
England have been hit by the controversy concerning Kevin Pietersen who is arguably their best player but much to the surprise of many he has been stood down after the incident. Besdies that incident England still have the chance to level the series after drawing the 2nd test after being thumped in the 1st test by an innings. The bowling from the England side was much better in the 2nd Test and actually got them in the game to challenge South Africa who may well be the best test playing side in the world. Not only is the series at stake in this 3rd test at Lord’s but also the number 1 spot. If England lose to South Africa or even draw they will drop in the rankings while South Africa will mvoe to number one. If England win they retain their top spot.
Hashim Amla vs Stuart Broad
Hashim Amla will be looking forward to making his way back to London where he made 311 in the 1st Test but this time at the home of cricket at Lord’s. The England bowlers will have to come up with something special since they need to limit the runs as much as they can since they don’t have their ace Kevin Pietersen in the team and Stuart Broad will be the key member from that attack. Broad didn’t play too well at Kennington Oval where England got thumped and he will have to do well at Lord’s. He had a great 2nd test picking up 8 wickets and he will need to add several more to that tally for the series if England are going to level this series.
South Africa have Alviro Peterson who has had a hamstring complaint of late but should be fit for the start of this important 3rd test. Other than the possibility of someone replacing Peterson the side should remain unchanged from the 2nd test.
Kevin Pietersen will be the significant figure from the England XI that played in the 2nd test that would feature after a sudden fallout with the ECB. Jonny Bairstow will replace him in the middle order and has some big shoes to fill.
