Expect a loud crowd as India and Afghanistan do battle in their first game of the campaign. Afghanistan got quite a lot of support in the qualifiers and they will be hoping their fans will make it to Colombo to back them against India who are one of the favourites. India played in two warm-ups against high quality opposition and managed to beat Sri Lanka but lose to Pakistan. Virender Sehwag will look to murder the Afghanistan bowlers and this is a great chance for him to get in some form early on against a weak opposition. A bowler who will be on the cutting block is Dawlat Zadran, he has been good for Afghanistan in the few matches he has played but will have to have the game of his life. Sponsored Links

Virender Sehwag vs Dawlat Zadran
Virender Sehwag’s form over the last few months hasn’t been too great but this fixture against Afghanistan could really help him free the hands as Afghanistan are a weak side. Dawlat Zadran will have to step up into the senior role at only 24 since Hamid Hassan is ruled out injured. Zadran is in good form having taken 3/22 against Sri Lanka A who aren’t a pushover team but the amount of cricket Zadran has played recently is not much at all. There is no perfect situation for Sehwag to get back into form even if he isn’t as aggressive. Sehwag could be given as many balls as possible if it goes like that because India should easily pass Afghanistan.
India will play four bowlers which will include Irfan Pathan who can bat in the lower order. Yuvraj Singh should bat 4 while Suresh Raina and Rohit Sharma will follow him.
India (possible): 1 Virender Sehwag, 2 Gautam Gambhir, 3 Virat Kohli, 4 Yuvraj Singh, 5 Suresh Raina, 6 Rohit Sharma, 7 MS Dhoni (capt. &wk), 8 R Ashwin, 9 Irfan Pathan, 10 Zaheer Khan, 11 L Balaji
Afghanistan have injury news and that is their front line fast bowler Hamid Hassan has been ruled out of the opening match with an injury.
Afghanistan (possible): 1 Mohammad Shahzad (wk), 2 Javed Ahmadi, 3 Karim Sadiq, 4 Nawroz Mangal (capt.), 5 Asghar Stanikzai, 6 Mohammad Nabi, 7 Samiullah Shenwari, 8 Dawlat Zadran, 9 Shapoor Zadran, 10 Gulbodin Naib, 11 Izatullah Dawlatzai
