More Highlights: Cricket World Cup 2011
We knew that Bangladesh were in for a battering after winning the toss and electing to field first and getting the first ball they bowled crashed to the boundary line. Sehwag has arrived at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011.
Tendulkar and Sehwag made Bangladesh reconsider their decision to field first, as early as the 2nd over. After putting on a good stand at the start, Tendulkar will be extremely disappointed with the way his innings ended as the pitch looked true and later proved to be. Nevertheless, the foundation laid at the top by the openers was enough impetus for the rest of the line-up to play around. Sehwag looked collected and well in his elements as he showed quite a bit of respect at the start of his innings (by his standards, of course). But he unfurled as he went on and put on a scintillating display with some wonderful- and typically Sehwag -stroke-making. Gambhir missed out on a big score by playing a poor shot. But that proved costly to Bangladesh!
Virat Kohli produced yet another brilliant piece of batting and has definitely cemented his place among his contemporaries in the big-players club of the world. A well-deserved century to Virat Kohli.
371 to chase was always a big order for a team that is still trying to make it’s mark among the best.
Bangladesh started surprisingly well, reaching their 50 in just 5 overs, thanks to a marathon Sreesanth over that saw him going for 23 runs- including 5 boundaries- all off the bat of Imrul Kayes. But Munaf Patel was introduced immediately and struck in his very first over to get rid of Kayes who was looking comfortable. Junaid Siddique and Tamim Iqbal put on a good amount of runs for the second wicket. But the rate at which they got those runs meant that too much was left to do for the remaining batsmen to come and despite a good knock from Tamim (70 off 86) and Shakib(55 off 50), the target proved too big for Bangladesh. They will, however, be happy that they managed to get to nearly 300 runs and will realize that if they bat that way and give the other teams something to chase with the backing of their home crowd, they will be extremely well advised.
Munaf Patel looked impressive and bagged 4 wickets. India will also be happy about the form of Zaheer Khan who looked in good rythm.
Bangladesh wont be too disappointed with the loss. India on the other end of the dressing room, will now be looking more clearly at the front podium of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011. But it’s too easy to tell anything. One thing is for sure, the 2011 World Cup will definitely not be drab or dull. Catch it all here on MyCricket Highlights!
