India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Preview – 31st August

New Zealand were absolutely pummelled by India in the 1st Test, losing by an innings and 115 runs is an incredible margin at any level of cricket. The New Zealanders would be very embarrassed by the result but will be looking for a quick come back which could include using spin as a massive tactic against the Indians. India will be ecstatic by the result of the 1st test, it was a given that they would win the match because of the difficult conditions but it would be unlikely they would of predicted a win by that margin. Pujara stepped right up to the mark for India replacing Laxman but New Zealand mind have to select a 2nd spinner to partner Jeetan Patel who was a stand out.

Match Information :

August 31, Bangalore
Starting Time: 0930 Local Time (0400 GMT Time)

Key Contest:

Jeetan Patel vs Cheteshwar Pujara

It has been known for a while that Cheteshwar Pujara has a lot of talent, and he displayed that coming in to the XI for the retired VVS Laxman and couldn’t have slotted in any better. He will be glad that he scored that 159 in the first innings, not only because India one the match but also to prevent him being reconsidered in that spot. Jeetan Patel had big shoes to fill as he had to replace Dan Vettori but he did very well taking 4 wickets and although he went for 100 he was a standout player for the Kiwi’s.

Team News:

It is a big possibility of New Zealand selecting two spinners for the 2nd test as Jeetan Patel had a successful match picking up 4 wickets in the 1st test. This could mean that Nethula, the leg spinner will come in for either Doug Bracewell or Trent Boult.

There is no reason for India to make any changes after a perfect outing in the 1st test though they may decide to rotate the squad. If a squad rotation is held for the 2nd and final test, Rahane and Badrinanth are possibilities for batsmen positions and Ishant Sharma and Piyush Chawla available for two bowling spots.
