The Indian legend VVS Laxman has called time on his International career as he has announced his retirement today and will take immediate effect. Laxman will be well remembered for the innings he batted through where he was under severe pressure and it seems that was where he stood in the Indian line-up over the last 16 years.
India will play New Zealand in Tests, the squad has already been announced and Laxman was one included but he made the decision only in the last few days to retire which will mean he will not be given a farewell test match which is unfortunate for the great batsman. Despite announcing his International career is over in a emotion press conference Laxman has pledged that he will participate in the Ranji Trophy.
“I have always kept my country’s success and need ahead of my personal aspirations. And while I would love contributing to the team’s success, especially against England and Australia, I think this is the right time to give the youngsters a chance in home conditions ahead of international assignments.”
