After a lop-sided one-day series, in which Bangladesh were beaten blue and black, whites have replaced coloured clothing and red ball comes in place of the white one. So far, Bangladesh have failed in four attempts to beat Pakistan on this tour. In fact, the gulf between the two sides has been laid bare over the last two weeks with the visitors outplaying their opponents in all departments of the game.
As things stand, Bangladesh have lot of work to do before they can even think of competing as equals against a Pakistan side that has been on a roll for almost a year now. The fact that Misbah’s men are yet to lose a bilateral series in 2011 provides a measure of their recent success. In UAE, Pakistan out lasted a star studded Sri Lankan side purely on the basis of grit and discipline.
Batting has been Bangladesh’s biggest headache; an army of Pakistan spinners has made them look ordinary. They have capitulated not just once or twice but four times in front of Ajmal, Hafeez and Afridi. Even though the latter is not part of Pakistan’s Test line up but Bangladesh batsmen will have to bat well to even stretch Pakistan. Accordingly, the experienced Mohammad Ashraful has been recalled into the side but it remains to be seen if he can overcome inconsistent form and help Bangladesh defy Pakistan in the longest format.
The two Test matches will cap off what has been an eventful year for Pakistan cricket. From spot-fixing to Afridi’d retirement antics and Waqar’s resignation, off-field distractions have been aplenty but Misbah with his calm demeanor and professional outlook has somehow kept the team united and good results have helped them gel as a unit even more
