Pakistan vs New Zealand Highlights World Cup 2011

Pakistan fell victim to changing a winning combination and imposition of a few absurd tactics against New Zealand.
New Zealand won the toss and elected to bat first, which meant Pakistan was going to chase for the first time in this tournament.
The match started off in exciting fashion as Brendon McCullum took the attack to Shoaib Akhtar in the very first over, hitting him for six over mid-wicket off a free hit. But he was out the very next ball and one drop batsman James How had one of the toughest starts of his life. He scored 4 runs off 29 balls before getting out. Guptill kept the other end going and continued his good form, thanks to Pakistan not giving the new ball to either of Abdul Razzaq or Umar Gul, who have been exceptional with the shiny ball so far. Abdur Rehman was given the new ball and although he managed to keep the runs tight, he couldn’t pick up the crucial wickets.
Afridi got rid of Guptill and Franklin fell soon after to leave New Zealand at 113-4.
However, Ross Taylor was still in the middle and looked set for a big one. He struggled initially but was let off twice by keeper Kamran Akmal and made full use of it.
He stitched together a steady partnership with Scott Styris. But New Zealand were still not in a stellar position. Just a decent one.
But Pakistan’s performance after that suggested that they weren’t too keen on chasing a small total. They bowled terribly in the last 6 overs- that saw New Zealand amass 114 runs! Taylor went on a rampage and hit Akhtar for 28 runs in an over and followed it up by hitting Razzaq for 30. Oram and he put on 85 runs off just 27 balls and New Zealand ended their innings at 302-7, thanks to Pakistan’s gifts.
The Pakistani batting then imploded as the New Zealand pacers ran through the top order to leave them tottering at 66-6. Umar Akmal and Razzaq tried a resurgence but couldn’t manage much as Pakistan folded out for 192, courtesy a counter-attacking innings by Razzaq who scored 62 and Umar Gul who added a quick fire 32 to go with his 3 wickets earlier in the day. New Zealand left Bennett out this match but it didn’t seems to affect them too much. Southee picked 3 and Mills, Styris and McCullum got 2 each as New Zealand completed a stunning victory to finish top of the group. The only negative for New Zealand is that their skipper injured his right knee and didn’t take part in the bowling in today’s game.
