Pietersen Not Awarded a Central Contract by ECB – 8th September

Kevin Pietersen is the notable player not awarded a central contract by the England Cricket Board from the list of players who were handed a contract for the 2012-13 season. Pietersen’s future for the England cricket team looks to be under a large cloud ever since he sent text messages to the South African touring squad about his then captain Andrew Strauss.

According to the ECB they are trying to resolve this issue with Kevin Pietersen as Andy Flower met with him last week. Pietersen has been an important player for England over his international career and you can tell they are missing his impact in the middle order. The ECB can allow to add players to the central contract list but not much seems to have changed when Flower met Pietersen.

England were also planning on announcing their Test squad for the India tour before the start of the T20 World Cup but it seems clear they are trying to resolve things with Pietersen to see if they can manage to name him in the squad or not. It isn’t just the ECB’s decision to give KP a contract since he can refuse to sign it meaning he can play in the IPL, Big Bash and other well paid tournaments without any limits that England often set.
