The explosive dual of Shahid Afridi and Umar Akmal have joined 6 other players in Pakistan’s highest earner in Category A. The other players in Category were in there last year and they were Misbah-ul-Haq, Younis Khan, Umar Gul, Mohammed Hafeez, Saeed Ajmal and Abdur Rehman. Mohammed Sami not receiving a contract was a controversy as he has been picked in all 3 of Pakistan’s squads to take on Sri Lanka.
Afridi has reclaimed the Category A contract after not featuring in the contract list last year because of the spat with him and the Pakistan Cricket Board. Umar Akmal was given a Category B contract last year but has shown some great form and has been handed a Category A contract.
The PCB’s new match fees
Category A: Tests – Pak Rs 385,000, ODIs – Rs 363,000, Twenty20s – Rs 275,000
Category B: Tests – Rs 330,000, ODIs – Rs 275,000, Twenty20s – Rs 220,000
Category C: Tests – Rs 275,000, ODIs – Rs 220,000, Twenty20s – Rs 165,000
Shoaib Malik was another veteran who did not receive a contract last year but this year the PCB have given him a Category B contract. The 32 year old Aizaz Cheema who has taken 51 wickets in all formats for Pakistan in 24 matches has the most improved contract going into Category B after he was in the Stipend category last year. The players will be happy to see that the PCB have increased the central contracts by 25% and match fees by 10%.
