When well-established sides encounter opposition they are expected to beat comfortably, it has long been a cliché for captains to ensure the public knows they are not being complacent. Throughout the tour so far Angelo Mathews has been careful to talk Bangladesh up as a side that posed a serious threat to Sri Lanka. Several times he has even highlighted his opponents’ menace by invoking Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup loss to Bangladesh last year. “They are an improved side,” Mathews has said at almost every opportunity, with “we have to play well to beat them” usually coming after.

But despite his eagerness to dispel thoughts that the team has let its standards slip, on the eve of the first ODI in Hambantota, Mathews also said Sri Lanka were already looking beyond the series at hand. After the three ODIs and Twenty20 against Bangladesh, Sri Lanka have no international commitments for two months (thanks to Sri Lanka Cricket’s commitment to making its players available for the entire IPL), and their next assignment is a major one: the Champions Trophy in June.

cricket is about winning and loosing so if bangla losses it is not a big deal it is a winning and a loosing game so everyone lose

  3. alamgir says:

Gay’s like quadir need glasses to wath cricket so he can see how it’s played

    • Quadir says:

You might want to learn proper English grammar before trying to diss someone otherwise you just look pathetic. The Sri Lankan batsmen mentioned here were no doubt good batsmen but their techniques were not stylish compared to the likes of Tamim Iqbal, Mahmudullah, Momin-ul-Haq, Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, Saeed Anwar, Mohammad Yusuf, etc.

Remember I was talking only about style, not substance, when it comes to substance, no one can doubt the quality of Sangakarra, Mahela, Aravinda Da Silva, etc.

  7. Tharindu says:

funny you ask that?answer is ‘everyone who like to see the winning side’ :D

    • Quadir says:

Not really, not if the wiining side is full of players who have ugly batting techniques and bowling actions. Sri Lanka is the only South Asian team who hasn’t produced a single stylish player. Sri Lankans are excellent fighters in home conditions though.

      • ads says:

How about aravinda, marvan, sangakkara, mahela… re think lol

      • Neil says:

Yes the ‘orthodox’ actions of other sub continent teams… not really the whole sub continent has a mix of styles, you muppet . Sri Lanka is known to have some of the most stylish batsmen in the game, from Vethimuny to Attapattu to Jayawardene.

      • mathu says:

ugly batting techniques???lol thats kinda hilarious…sanga…mahela..aravinda…the list will go on…taught the world how to play classic shots and yeah we do have different bowling techniques..thats called smart bowling techniques not ugly bowling techniques and thats the reason…almost all the cricketers in the world struggled and still struggles to face our bowlers…watch what ur sayin mate..
