It was yet another low scoring encounter between Sri Lanka and Pakistan at the Pallekele but hopefully the 2nd ODI will be a much high scoring game to get the crowds happier. Of course the crowds won’t be too happy with their Sri Lankan cricket team getting smashed in the 1st ODI and they will need to bounce back. The Pakistan bowling was superb but the problem of the top 3 failing for Sri Lanka continues as they slumped to a low total in the 1st ODI. Sponsored Links
Match Information :
June 9, Pallekele
Starting Time: 1430 Local Time (0900 GMT Time)
How the Teams Stand:
Sri Lanka were thrashed in the 1st ODI and are already behind so early in the series which is what they didn’t want after drawing the T20 series. They will need to bounce back as a team and square the series up at 1-1 but that won’t be easy as the Sri Lankan batsmen don’t look in that great of knick of the moment. The Sri Lankan top three is so important to the chances for the home side as they rely so much on Jayawardene, Dilshan and Sangakkara. Pakistan’s spot on bowling has affected these 3 great batsmen as they are struggling and they will need to turn things around.
Umar Gul vs Mahela Jayawardene
Umar Gul has been Pakistan’s spearhead of the pace attack for a while but in the limited overs format that is where he plays his best cricket with the fabulous yorkers and change of pace. Mahela Jayawardene is part of that top 3 for Sri Lanka that is so crucial to their chances of winning matches. Gul picked up 3 of the top four in the 1st ODI and deserved man of the match with the wickets of Jayawardene, Dilshan and Chandimal. He will look to do the same thing and dismiss the top four as quick as possible. Mahela Jayawardene will have different plans and he will hope on a big partnership with TM Dilshan to get off to a good start.
Both teams shouldn’t make any changes despite Sri Lanka getting pumped in the 1st ODI by Pakistan.
