T20 World Cup 2012 – Group C

bet365

Group C looks like one of the toughest groups but it is pretty easy to determine which two teams will advance. The only big question in Group is will either the hosts Sri Lanka or South Africa top the group. It will be a fantastic fixture when Sri Lanka and South Africa play against each other and perhaps could be the game of the group stage. Lasith Malinga hasn’t quite been in his best form over the last few months but Sri Lanka need him to regain if they are to go far in this tournament. South Africa have a damaging bowling attack and Dale Steyn will lead that attack and he has a tremendous record in T20’s so other teams could struggle. Hamilton Masakadaza has regained his spot in the Zimbabwean team over the last year and he will be key to their chances of causing an upset.

Key Players:

Sri Lanka – Lasith Malinga

Fans expect a lot from Lasith Malinga but unfortunately his form hasn’t been that great as he has only taken 11 wickets in his last 10 matches. Sri Lanka need Malinga in form because they don’t have too many pace bowlers who take regular wickets like Malinga does. Malinga’s record in T20 Internationals isn’t anywhere near his domestic record but one benefit is that it is on home surface.

South Africa – Dale Steyn

Steyn will lead the South African bowling attack in Sri Lanka and will also hope to lead his team to a final by the end of the tournament. Steyn is one of the best pace bowlers in the format, usually a lot of fast bowlers go for a lot of runs but Steyn approaches the format very well and has influenced how successful he has been. Steyn has taken 31 wickets from 23 matches and bowls at 6.67 runs per over.

Zimbabwe – Hamilton Masakadaza

Zimbabwe often fail to build partnerships so that is why Hamilton Maskadaza is so important to this Zimbabwean team because he can play in different roles. Masakadaza can also contribute quite a lot of runs on his day and very quickly but Zimbabwe need him in the group stage to score runs since Zimbabwe often struggle for a good start and rely on their lower middle order to score quick runs. In all T20’s Hamilton averages just over 39.00 but in T20 international he only averages 27.95. His strike rate of 120.99 doesn’t do him justice because he can score runs very quickly on his day.

Recent Form:

Sri Lanka Last 5 T20 Matches – WLLWL
South Africa Last 5 T20 Matches – LWWWW
Zimbabwe Last 5 T20 Matches – LLLLL

Predictions:

Zimbabwe won’t win a game and will finish 3rd in the group. South Africa will be too strong against Sri Lanka in what will be a block buster match.

1st – South AFrica
2nd – Sri Lanka
3rd – Zimbabwe
