Uva Next and Basnahira Cr face off in with Basnahira backing up from a match last night and both teams will be hoping rain does not affect the match so they can have a crack at an early win. Uva Next looked like a possible title contender a few days ago but the injury news of Chris Gayle will put a stop to that even though they will field a strong team. Dilshan is the well known figure in the Basnahira team and they look slightly weaker than Uva’s squad but T20 cricket is always a mystery.

Upul Tharanga vs Charl Langeveldt
Upul Tharanga will have a lot to do now that Chris Gayle is ruled out of the tournament and he will have to fill his shoes as best as he can which will not be easy for Tharanga. Charl Langeveldt is past his days as a 37 year old veteran but with his experience he brings a lot more with 94 matches worth of experience in the format. His strike rate of 16.2 is good for a pace bowler and an economy rate which is less than 8 keeps him up with the best in the world. Tharanga isn’t often known for clearing the infield too often but a modest 125+ strike rate is good despite a poor average of less than 25.
Umar Gul who is a death bowling specialist should be given a spot in Uva Next’s team. Without Chris Gayle Uva will have to look for a new captain and a opener and that spot could be filled by James Franklin who has previously opened the batting for the Mumbai Indians. Jacob Oram hasn’t got a lot of chances to play cricket over the past few years but Oram could resurect his career with a big showing in the SLPL. Andrew Mcdonald who is no mug with the bat could easily bowl a few overs cheaply as he is a wicket to wicket bowler and could be useful.
Brad Hodge, Daniel Smith, Charl Langeveldt and Cameron Borgas were the 4 overseas players who participated in their first match. With strong bench players it is still uncertain if they will continue to be in the XI for this match against Uva Next.
