It is a huge surprise that Uva Next and Nagenahira are the two teams that have qualified for the final of the 2012 Sri Lankan Premier League. When you look at their squads you wouldn’t say they’re the strongest in the competition but they have performed when required. Many though that Wayamba United would breeze through this tournament but this wasn’t the case as they lost to Uva Next. Nagenahira were slightly more fortunate as their match was washed out which meant they qualified. Jacob Oram relived his glory days for New Zealand where he would blister a quick half century off the bat in the semi final and he will have a huge influence on the game but Angelo Matthews will have a lot to say about that. Jacob Oram vs Angelo Matthews
Jacob Oram was back to his best against Wayamba and his man of the match contribution single handedly won the match for Uva. Without Gayle Uva looked as if they would struggled but not many know that Jacob Oram was one of the most feared batsmen in the world when he was in his prime. 41 off 17 deliveries clearly shows he is deadly with the ball but also picking up 3 for 16 is magic. Angelo Matthews looks to have the same influence on his team who breezed through the semi final. Matthews hasn’t been a huge stand out but has been a solid enough player to help guide his team through into the final. Matthew’s strike rate of less than 115 is the only bit of criticism you can give him.
They say don’t change a winning team but their is stil plenty of room for improvement for Uva Next but they will be likely to pick the same XI.
Nagenahira should play the same team that beat Uva Next on the 27th of August which included Nazir, Birt and Grandehomme with the exception of playing Rahim.
