52nd Match: Delhi Daredevils vs Rising Pune Supergiant at Delhi, May 12 - 2017, Cricket Highlights.
When Sanju Samson was run out by Ben Stokes in the first over, this looked like it might be a good day for Rising Pune Supergiant, and it looked even more like that in the middle of their run-chase. Stokes has been a consistent high performer for Pune this IPL season, but he was blunted by the superb early batting of Karun Nair, who thrilled the crowd in partnership with Risabh Pant, with Nair taking nine fours while Pant weighed in with his fair share, taking six boundaries. Marlon Samuels went for 27 off a catch from the legendary MS Dhoni that rolled back the years and showed that class is permanent.
At that point it was 117/4 and Delhi were suffering thanks to Dhoni's superb organisation behind the stumps, with Corey Anderson taken for three by an eagle-eyed stumping. Stokes did his bit too, taking Pat Cummins with a typically aggressive yorker. In the Pune innings, Steven Smith looked to have his eye in, dispatching the boundaries with ease, and he built the innings classily, finishing on 38. It was Smith's heroics that meant it looked like Pune had enough to get over the line, but when the Aussie was lbw, it all started to go backwards for them.
Needing 13 runs from the final four balls, it still looked, even after some fine restrictive bowling from Zaheer Khan, like they might have the goods, but it was the India international quick's input that swung it for Delhi, and Zaheer also weighed in with the crucioal wickets of Rahane and Tripathi at the top of the order. In spite of this Delhi win, Pune can still make the playoffs, but it will be a lot tighter than perhaps they anticipated or hoped.
