3rd T20I: New Zealand vs Bangladesh at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, Jan 8 - 2017, Cricket Highlights.

New Zealand proved too hot to handle for Bangladesh as the hosts registered a 6th successive victory over the visitors and completed a double whitewash.

The script of this match was pretty similar to the last one as Bangladesh once again won the toss and after electing to bowl first, picked up a few early wickets. It was Rubel Hossain, who provided the early breakthroughs and got the important wickets of Neesham and Munro. Tom Bruce too failed to contribute this time around and was dismissed by Mosaddek Hossain Saikat for 5. As a result, the Blackcaps were reduced to 41/3.

Bangladesh had the opportunity to tighten the grip on the match by picking up a wicket or two more, but they failed in doing so as Williamson along with Anderson resurrected their team’s innings and took the game away from the visitors. What Munro and Bruce did in the last match was replicated by the Kiwi skipper and Corey Anderson in this one.

From 55/3 at the half-way mark, the duo took their team’s total to 165/3 at the end of 18 overs – that’s 110 runs in just 8 overs. While Williamson played his natural game and scored the runs with a lot of flair and elegance, Anderson was at his destructive best and thrashed the Bangladeshi bowlers all over the park.

Rubel was brought back into the attack by his skipper and the pacer once again turned out to be the partnership breaker as he got Williamson cleaned up for 60. Last 11 balls were left in New Zealand’s innings and Corey made sure that his team finishes with a bang. He smashed 3 more sixes (10 in total) and scored an unbeaten 94 off just 41 balls to help his team post a total close to 200.

Bangladesh, for a change, were off to a blazing start as Tamim Iqbal with his new opening partner Soumya Sarkar scored 44 runs in 4.3 overs. The tourists would have hoped the pair to continue and convert the partnership into a big one, but Boult didn’t allow that to happen as he got Tamim dismissed on the very next ball.

The good thing for Bangladesh, though, was that Soumya Sarkar and Sabbir Rahman got themselves involved in another partnership. They took their team total’s to 80/1 at the end of 8 overs and were looking good from the visitors’ point of view. However, both of them got out in quick succession, which tilted the game in New Zealand’s favour.

Shakib Al Hasan tried his best to keep his team in the game, but his solitary efforts were not enough in helping his team chase down the mammoth total.
