17th Match: Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat at W.A.C.A. Ground, Perth, Jan 5, 2017, Cricket Highlights.

After posting a total of 173 on the board, the Perth Scorchers would have thought that they have got enough runs on the board to defend and continue their winning spree. However, things didn’t turn out according to the plan for the home team as the duo of Lynn and McCullum made a mockery of the Scorchers’ total and chased down the target in mere 14.4 overs.

It all started with Jimmy Peirson providing the Heat with a perfect start as he smashed 18 off mere 9 balls, 16 of which came off Willey’s bowling. The bowler soon was able to get his revenge as he got Peirson clean bowled in his second over. This brought the duo of Lynn and McCullum together. We already knew what they are capable of and for the second time in this season, they showed how dangerous they two can be together.

Lynn took 10 deliveries to score his first 9 runs, but it was just a message to the opposition that he was gearing himself for a big one. Jhye Richardson was the first one to bear the brunt as Lynn thrashed him for a couple of massive hits out of the park. As quickly the ball was coming out of Richardson’s hand (he was bowling 145+), it was going out at a similar pace off Lynn’s bat.

Once he got himself going, there was no stopping him. He was just dealing in sixes and was hitting them at will. Seeing his partner going so well, McCullum decided to curb down his natural (attacking) game and gave the maximum strike to Lynn.

Johnson, M. Marsh, Tye, Agar… you name the bowler and he was simply bashing all of them. He reached his fifty in just 27 balls and also brought up his team’s hundred in 9.1 overs. With 67 needed from the last 10 overs, the only way that Scorchers could have come back in the match is by taking wickets and more importantly sending Lynn back to the pavilion. They had a chance to get McCullum out, but unfortunately for Bell, he wasn’t able to hold on to a skier and the chance went begging for the Scorchers.

Post that, there were a few more sixes which flew off Lynn and McCullum’s blade. The former also equalled the record for hitting the most number of sixes (11) in an innings in BBL. He finished off the match in style with a thunderous blow over mid-wicket and remained not out on 98. Sadly for him, he couldn’t complete his century as there were no more runs left to score. For his outstanding knock, Christopher Austin Lynn won the Man of the Match award for the third time this season.

Earlier in the day, it was mainly due to the efforts of Mitchell Marsh, who scored a 41-ball 70, that the Perth Scorchers were able to post a challenging total of 173.
