Shahid Afridi Records
Shahid Afridi Records. Shahid Afridi Cricket Records Pakistan Cricket Team. It is not a time to just survive,” Shahid Afridi said at end of the match, leading Pakistan to an emphatic win in the series opener against West Indies. He was right because it was sort of performance – 76 runs from 55 balls and seven wickets for 12 runs - which a player gives to thrive, not survive. Afridi left everyone gobsmacked with his stunning display, first with bat and later with ball. In doing so, he broke plenty of records and achieved some remarkable feats.
Pakistan were reeling at 47-5 but Afridi helped recovering the innings. He had a 120-run partnership with Misbah-ul-Haq, who scored a slow but anchoring fifty. Afridi later ran through the opposition with a ruthless display, taking seven wickets.
Best bowling figures by a Pakistan bowler
Shahid Afridi took 7 wickets for just 12 runs in his nine overs. The figures, 7-12, are best by a Pakistan bowler in ODI Cricket. The previous best were 36-7 by Waqar Younis against England at Leeds 2001. Waqar’s effort however remains best by a captain in ODI Cricket.
Second-best of all time
Shahid Afridi now also has second best bowling figures of all time in ODI Cricket, only behind Sri Lankan Chaminda Vass’s tally 19-8, against Zimbabwe.
Best by spinner
In taking seven-for-12, Shahid Afridi also went past Muttiah Muralitharan’s tally of 30-7, which were previously best bowling figures by a spinner in ODI Cricket.
Shahid Afridi became first player ever to score 50 and take fifty three times in a One Day International. No other player has achieved this feat more than once.
Most Seven-fors team wise
Pakistan became first team to have three players who have taken 7-wicket hauls in ODI Cricket. The previous two bowlers were Aaqib Javed and Waqar Younis.
Most seven-wicket-hauls in ODIs team wise: Pakistan (3), Australia (2), Sri Lanka (2), West Indies (1). No one from India, New Zealand, South Africa, England.
30th Man of the Match
Shahid Afridi earned 30th Man of the match, the most by any Pakistan player, award for his all-round performance.
Most five-wicket hauls
Most 5-wicket hauls in ODI Cricket: Waqar Younis (13), Muralitharan (10), Shahid Afridi and Brett Lee (9)
Misbah-ul-Haq goes past Andrew Jones
Misbah hit 26th ODI fifty. He now has most fifties without scoring century, beating Andrew Jones’s tally 25.
Only three times Misbah has faced 100-plus balls in an ODI innings. All three times against West Indies: at the Providence 2013, at the Oval 2013, at Bridgetown 2011.
