53rd Match: Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Gujarat Lions at Hyderabad, May 13 -2017, Cricket Highlights

We are just a few days away from the playoffs and at least 3 teams are fighting to book their spot in the qualifying stage. Out of those three, the defending champions, Sunrisers Hyderabad, have made it through by thrashing the Gujarat Lions and registering a comprehensive 8-wicket win.

The Gujarat Lions would be extremely disappointed to once again end up on the losing side, especially after the start they got. Openers Dwayne Smith and Ishan Kishan went full throttle in the powerplay and smacked the Sunrisers’ bowlers all over the park. They continued the assault even after the field restrictions and brought up their team’s 100 in just 10 overs.

But once the partnership was broken by Rashid Khan, the Lions batting lineup collapsed like a pack of cards. From 111/1 in 11 overs, they got bowled out for 154 in 19.2 overs. For the home team, the heroes with the ball were Mohammed Siraj and Siddharth Kaul, who picked up 4 and 3 wickets, respectively.

The target was not a difficult one, but SRH were off to a shaky start as they lost Dhawan and Henriques for a mere 25 runs on the board. Surprisingly, it was the debutant, Vijay Shankar, who walked out in the middle ahead of Yuvraj Singh. And boy oh boy, didn’t he capitalize on the opportunity!

Along with David Warner, the youngster stitched a match-winning partnership of 133 runs and guided Hyderabad to a fantastic 8-wicket win with more than 2 overs to spare.
